Lebanon considers suing Israel
The Lebanese Prime Minister, Rafiq Hariri, says his country is considering suing Israel for compensation over its 22-year occupation of a zone in southern Lebanon. Mr Hariri - who is visiting Egypt - said his government was consulting experts in international law to assess Lebanon's chances of winning such an action. He said it was important to make a fully informed decision, as to lose the case would mean that Israel had been absolved of responsibility. Lebanese government estimates put the damage from the Israeli occupation at about $1bn. Israeli forces finally withdrew from south Lebanon just over a year ago.
